Massive video wall in CCTV’s FIFA World Cup Studio displays social network content and live videos.
The FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil was the number one television event of this summer, attracting an enormous audience worldwide and reaching into every country. Broadcasters were eager to find ways in which to distinguish their own FIFA broadcasts from those of their competitors. The Chinese channel CCTV5 chose Ventuz to spice up its FIFA studio.
The agency Hunters provided CCTV5 with a custom installation that could be operated by the hosts in the studio via iPods. The main theme of the content was bringing viewers from all over the country into the studio by implementing messages from wechat, China’s most popular social media platform. The application also allowed the display of images and videos, and incorporated a voting application, which collected polls and calculated the according graphics in real-time. Additionally, Hunters developed a number of games on the video wall which invited the audience in the studio and at home to play along.
Hunters is the creative studio of TVM. The team has supported many famous Chinese programs, including Chinese Idol in 2013, the European Cup , the Olympic Games in 2012 and many more. They chose Ventuz for this task due to the flexibility when it comes to the creation of graphics. CCTV5 needed a number of quick updates and changes during the weeks of the World Cup, which Hunters could easily comply with due to the real-time nature of Ventuz. A similar setup is currently in use for the broadcasting of the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing.
