The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important holidays in China and is celebrated all over the country. Chinese public network CCTV3 2015 celebrated the festival with a Ventuz powered Virtual Reality installation realized by agency TVM.
As the moon is the central icon of the Mid-Autumn Festival, CCTV created an interactive setup which allowed viewers at home to virtually land on the moon. Using social media, viewers could send in their pictures and text blessings, which were them implemented into the Virtual Reality Graphics. Little balloons showing the participants’ avatars were send off to land on a virtual moon. Each moon-lander received a gift from the show, and more importantly, each of them made the moon brighter, eventually reaching full moon with a sufficient number of participants.
“Ventuz is one of the most reliable and flexible broadcast graphic solution available”, replied Allen Hyoga of TVM to the question of why Ventuz was chosen for this project. “Advanced virtual tracking helped presenters to interact with audiences in outer space, while the 4k rendering technology made sure that the quality of TV images is of the highest standard.”
TVM has based many recent projects on Ventuz, including the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympics, 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, as well as CCTV Spring Festival Special Program 2015.
